I am excited to have been invited to be a participating artist in the Quick Draw Art Auction. It takes place in Moab on the evenings of November 21st and 22nd. The event is part of a Mystery Dinner Theatre that is hosted by the MARC (Moab Arts and Recreation Center). It is a fundraiser for the MARC. The art that is created during the performance is then auctioned off at the end of the evening.  Thus the name, “Quick Draw Art Auction”. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.
Right now I am working on a series called “The Flying Boy and the Girl”. They involve a boy with mechanical wings. Think Davinci, and sketches for flying machines. He is friends with a girl. Vague, I know, but I am having fun with it. So far the paintings use a lot of vivid reds and pale aqua blues. The two paintings pictured above are part of a group of paintings that work together to create a larger image.
I plan for the paintings for the art auction to be along this theme. I will also be showing a select few pieces from the collection in the MARC’s gallery during November and December. So look for me at the November 8th Art Walk in Moab, too.

. . . birds on wires have been in my creative thought pile for a while now, and they are finally coming to the surface.  I want to put them on everything.  I think I will start by making a skirt for myself, thick black stitching will be the wires.  Maybe cut some stencils for the birds.  I haven’t cut a stencil for a while.  I’ll make it and take some pictures for you. Tweet tweet.

It is nice to be shifting gears into a domestic family kind of direction for now.  Although I need to do a better job of organizing my time when it is this way.  When I am “working”, even at home, I am so much better at making a schedule and respecting it.  Yet, when I am focusing more on the mommy/keeper of the hearth role – I tend to let myself take on more than I can accomplish in a day.  I get easily worn out and get frustrated with my inability to DO IT ALL!!!

I need to apply my work related time management skills to my everyday life.  And I definitely need to schedule time for just me.

O.K., now that I have reminded myself of this, let’s see if I can actually do it.

My little studio is getting a bit neglected and messy again.  If I motivate to clean it up I know I will be more motivated to spend time in there working on art.  Must not procrastinate (said in a monotone robot voice)

Moab is having their September Art Walk this weekend on Saturday evening, 6-9.  My show is still up at Moab Art Works.  I plan to be around during the Art Walk so if you are in the area, stop on by.

Here are a few of my favs that are up in the show right now, but not on the gallery’s website.

Here are some pictures from the gallery opening at ‘Moab Art Works’ last weekend. The show will remain in the gallery until the end of the month, and likely be up during part of September as well.

A grid of nine paintings is being displayed in the front room of the gallery.

In all I completed thirty seven paintings for the show.

The walls in the back room are black, which works quite well with the artwork.  Brian did a fabulous job with lighting and display.

My white spheres, or “esferas blancas”, floated overhead in the hall during the opening.

Marian almost imediately had a selection of paintings up on the gallery’s website.  She always impresses me with her speed on the computer.  You can go and see the paintings at Moab Art Works.

I’m getting ready for my show on the 9th at Moab Art Works, all the little details.  I liked the idea of putting something little and special on the back of each painting.  I have to give Brian from the gallery credit for that suggestion.  So I made a little heart stamp with my initials, B and K, overlapping inside of it.  I’m happy with how it turned out.

We went camping in an area outside of Gunnison called Fossil Ridge when we were there.  I took some close up photos of plants and flowers.  It would have been the perfect campsite if it had not been for the insane mosquitoes and biting flies alternating with rainfall.  Also, the car battery was dead in the morning. That was a blast pushing the zillion pound Mercedes up an incline.

I am teaching a Textile Design class this week and next in Gunnison Colorado at the Gunnison Art Center.  Teaching is fun and always gives me a lot of ideas for my own art.  We are staying up in Crested Butte.  It is the next town over and my friend Ivy and her family live here.  It is beautiful here and so nice to have a chance to visit with such good friend.

When salsify flowers go to seed they create the most enormous fluffy globe. They are like giant dandelions. I think they are beautiful. Our yard is full of them right now. Maybe I should make some really big wishes.

I suppose the early bird gets the worm.  But the bird who sleeps in feels rested and happy and can still make a good breakfast out of whatever is in the fridge.  Who wants worms anyway?

Been pretty busy around here.  But, I thought I would share this painting I finished last month.  It is my brother and I in the woods with my Grandfather.

I shared the sketch of my Grandfather for this painting a little while back.  He used to carve our names on the trees in the small forest across the street from his house.  My Nana still lives there.  It is funny, because when I say small, I mean small.  And yet when my brother goes there now with his boys, he can’t find the trees with our names.  I wonder if they are still there?
